How to prepare your car for Spring!

We all love the springtime. The flowers start to bloom and the weather is starting to get warmer. The nights are getting longer too and this means it’s time for a road trip or holidays. Here are 5 spring car maintenance tips to keep your car running safely this season!

1.How Are You Wearing?

Check the pressure of all your tires every month, and maintain the pressure that is recommended in your owner’s manual. Also, check the tread for uneven wear and for cuts and bumps along the sidewalls of the tires. If you notice any uneven wear it may be time for a “Wheel alignment inspection” (Complimentary for March at South Centre VW). Remember to rotate your tires and have your tires replaced if they are damaged or worn excessively. Safe tires mean safe driving.

2.Let Us Handle Your Spring Cleaning

A lot of the dirt, salt and grime gets tracked into your vehicle during the winter months and it’s best to get it all out. Make sure you get into those hard to reach places where salt can live and cause long term issues. We can help if you don’t want to do it yourself.

3.STOP!! Check Your Brakes

Before setting off on any spring road trips, make sure your brakes are in good working order. Is your braking rough and noisy? You may simply need to have your brakes serviced and cleaned up. It could also mean you need new brake pads or rotors. You can do a visual inspection yourself if you know what to look for. If you don’t, we know some people that can take care of that for you.

4.Sprung a Leak?

Check your fluid levels and inspect your vehicle engine bay for any sign of leaks. The fluctuating temperatures we face in Alberta are hard on vehicles and we must to do our due diligence to ensure the longevity of your vehicle and its over 2000 moving parts.

5.Breathe Easy

The snow is melting and the sweepers come out to alleviate the abuse our front ends and windshields face all winter long. This time period is when we see the most dust kick up and a lot of that ends up in your engine and cabin air filters. Inspect them and replace if needed.

It’s easy to put things off, and it’s even easier during wintertime. If there’s anything that’s been bugging you, what better time than now to get them checked out? Perhaps you bumped a curb. Or even slid on when coming to a stop. Maybe you’ve noticed a slight thumping when you’re driving down the highway. It’s never fun taking your car into the mechanic, but it’s always better to perform routine maintenance and ensure those road trips stay moving and those stops remain exclusive to food and bathroom breaks.
